Paragraph Construction EAE1D

Go to the attached sited and find the list of sentences on Elvis Presley. http://esl.about.com/library/lessons/nblwriteparagraph.htm

Add the following sentences then follow steps one through eight to create a polished paragraph.

He had many songs which made it on to the top ten.

He was considered too provocative to be seen on television from the waist down.He was the star of films such as Girls, Girls, Girls, Loving You and Jailhouse Rock.

He was in 31 films.

Step One: Read over the list of sentences.

Step Two: Group the sentences into similar ideas.

Step Three: Decide on the three main ideas from this list.

Step Four: Organize the three main ideas into a thesis statement.

Step Five: Following the order of your thesis statement, add the sentences in order to your paragraph.

Step Six: Use transitional words and phrases to link the sentences and help your writing flow.

Step Seven: Write a summarizing statement (s) that wraps up your paragraph but is not a repetition of your first sentence.

Step Eight: Read out loud – does it flow? Does the order make sense? Can you change some of the words to add maturity and colour? Can you change the sentence structure to add interest?
